What Else Is New On The 2017 Chevy Silverado? While the 2017 Silverado models and exterior styling remain largely unchanged, there are a few new additions for 2017. New for this year, the 2017 Silverado receives a capless fuel fill system that is a standard feature across every model and trim level except for trucks that are ordered as pickup box delete.
The new 2017 Silverado 1500 is also equipped with a new P265/65R18 off road tire that will be an option for the 1LT trim as well as a new High Country package which includes:
Enhanced Driver Alert Package
IntelliBeam headlights
Power adjustable pedals
Heated leather-wrapped steering wheel
Is The Powertrain In The 2017 Silverado Different From 2016 Silverado?
The 2017 Silverado light duty will be available in 3 different options: a 4.3L V6 with 285 HP, a 6.3L V8 with 355 horsepower and a 6.2L V8 that produces 420 horsepower.
While those engines are the same as 2016, the 2017 Silverado will have a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Previously this was only available in the more expensive trim levels and most powerful and expensive engine, the 6.2L V8. But for 2017 the 8-speed will be available across the entire Silverado line.
What Is New For The 2017 Silverado 2500 HD? The new 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will now be available with an optional Duramax Turbo Diesel V8 engine that is similar to the 2017 GMC Sierra Denali 2500HD. To accompany the new Turbo Diesel engine the new 2017 Silverado will come equipped with a patented ram-air intake system that provides a supercharger effect.
Defined by a dramatic scoop on the hood of the truck, the new air intake could account for up to 60% of the total engine air flow.
By driving cool, dry air into the engine the new hood scoop provides
sustained performance and cooler engine temperatures under strenuous driving conditions.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the new ram-air induction system could actually increase the Duramax-powered 2017 Silverado's output from 397HP & 765 lb-ft of torque to 425HP and 800 lb-ft. That could substantially increase the vehicles max. tow ratings. | |
Chevy Silverado HD Chief Engineer Eric Stanczak notes that, "The 2017 Silverado HD was engineered to provide maximum utility for our customers in even the most extreme situations...While developing this all-new induction system we considered our customers towing a maximum weight trailer through the Eisenhower Tunnel on a hot, rainy summer day."
